This project aims to introduce C-monoanionic P,C,P-pincer ligands into the chemistry of Group 13 and 14 elements (i.e. Al, Ga, In, Ge, Sn and Pb). This would represent their first application in the p-block and would open an entirely new playground in the field of main group elements. The initial goals include the development of efficient synthetic protocols along with the examination of their limits. A detailed structural study with an emphasis on the description of phosphorus-central atom interactions and their influence on complexes properties will be performer from both experimental and theoretical points of view. The oxidation of P-functions will allow switching of the donor-set to O,C,O-, S,C,S- or Se,C,Se-pincers, thereby enriching bonding capabilities of this ligand class. The investigation of Group 13 and 14 hydrides regarding their utilization in hydrometallations and activation of unsaturated organic molecules, carbon dioxide or carbon disulfide represents the second main target. The most promising stolchiometric processes will finally be investigated on a catalytic mode.

Aims

The project aims at investigating of C-monoanionic P,C,P-pincer ligands in Group 13 and 14 chemistry. The description of synthgetic protocols, coordination capabilities and application of corresponding hydrides in activation of small organic molecules and carbon dioxide constitute the main goals.
