Tomáš Soukup
Tomas Soukup is the project manager and a senior consultant in remote sensing, GIS and land monitoring in private company GISAT located in Prague, Czech Republic.
Over the last 20 years, he has worked extensively on utilization of the Earth observation (EO) data for various practical applications in the land monitoring context including urban studies, regional planning, environmental assessment or emergency response and security support.
Tomas has been active in number projects developing and testing European GMES/Copernicus service capacities with financial support from ESA and EC. Since 1998, he collaborates with the EEA on various levels, with the European Environmental Agency (EEA) in the framework of European Topic Centers (PTL/LC, ETC/TE, ETCLUSI, ETCSIA), including contribution into the Agency land accounting framework and related indicators development. In 2011, he has received InfraEco Network Europe (IENE) Award for the publication ‘Landscape Fragmentation in Europe’.

Related, Tomas is the member of the CORINE Land Cover (CLC) Technical Team steering implementation of the CLC programme in Europe and a member of EIONET EAGLE group.
Tomas successfully led GISAT participation in number of national and European research projects in remote sensing application domains (e.g. CLC, EUROSION, BIOPRESS, DAIFOR, UrbanAtlas, SLF, SAFER, geoland2, HLANDATA, HELM, GRAAL). Currently, he is involved in ESA IFI activities providing expert services to international financial institutions (e.g. World Bank, ADB, EIB).
He received MSc. degrees in Geography, Cartography and Remote Sensing from the Czech Technical University in Prague in 1991. He is married and is happy father of two children.
