"Rock blasting in buildup areas"
The lecture was mainly based on practical experience.
Rock blasting is in general risky. But nowhere is the result of a bad blast as catastrophic as in buildup areas and close to constructions. The problems were discussed by using worst cases taken from some practical blasting jobs, where destruction caused by blasting has happened from horizontal movement of the rock mass, by large throw of the rock masses and by flyrock against constructions and human beings. Practical advices and technical methods showing how to carry through blasting work close to buildings without damage will be given, further calculation of the pattern and the charges, initiation plans, mat covering etc.
